The Suzuki Method in Early Childhood Music Education

During the course, you will learn how to:
- Teach according to Suzuki principles: auditory, playful, and child-centred
- Actively involve parents in the learning process
- Use the Suzuki repertoire purposefully and effectively
- Develop teaching techniques for both individual and group lessons
Course Structure
- The training programme is based on the syllabus of the European Suzuki Association (ESA).
- Five progressive levels
- Completion of all levels is not required
- Average duration per level: 10-18 months
- Each level includes:
- 20 Biweekly online sessions
- One or two in person workshops with students
Courses 2025-2026
- Workshops : 5-7 maart 2026 Lausanne & Yverdon, Suzuki Fluitworkshop with lectures, presentations, graduations and concerts
- 5-6 december 2026 Florence, Italy : Suzuki Fluteworkshop
Courses 2026-2027
- Introductory session via Zoom : 20 november 2026
- Biweekly online sessions on Friday mornings
- Start New Level 1 January 2027
- Start Levels 2-5 March 2027

ESA Teacher Trainer
Within Europe, Suzuki teacher training is provided by accredited trainers of the European Suzuki Association (ESA).
Anke van der Bijl is a recognised ESA Teacher Trainer and Examiner and has been working with the Suzuki Flute Method since 1990. She has presented lectures, workshops, and teacher-training courses throughout Europe and internationally.
Together with colleagues, she developed the flute teacher-training syllabus that is used in all 27 ESA member countries across Europe and Africa.
As Chair of the ISA Flute Committee, Anke collaborates with Toshio Takahashi and international colleagues on new editions and recordings of the Suzuki Flute repertoire.
